Employee spotlight: Emily piatt Clinches Top Prize for Creative Tech Paper

On Wednesday, November 1st, 2024, in a remarkable achievement, Emily Piatt, Senior Project Engineer at Cincinnati Inc., was honored with the CAMX Outstanding Technical Paper Award for her groundbreaking work on The Gantry Project.

Origins of the Gantry Project

Emily's journey with the gantry project, titled "Design of High Stiffness and Low Strength Parts using Metallic Skins for Large Format Additive Manufacturing Processes," began in 2019 when she was pursuing her master's degree in engineering. Faced with a 40-week lead time for a critical part, Cincinnati Inc. explored the possibility of in-house manufacturing using additive equipment.

We were looking if this was something we could manufacture ourselves and utilize our own additive equipment to do it in the process.

Academic Background and Expertise

Emily's academic background and hands-on experience in additive manufacturing played a pivotal role in the success of the gantry project, showcasing the practical impact of research.

The Journey to the Award

Transitioning from her master's to a Ph.D. program, Emily's dedication to additive manufacturing caught the attention of the awards committee, leading to the Outstanding Technical Paper Award.

Significance of the Award

The award recognizes the impact and merit of Emily's work, not only in the technical intricacies of the gantry project but also its potential to reshape the additive manufacturing landscape.

The Outstanding Technical Paper Award, a recognition of well-written, groundbreaking papers, is a testament to the impact and merit of Emily's work.

Emily's Toolbox - Teamwork and Potential Applications

When asked about her secret sauce, Emily modestly shared credit with her team. Yet, she spilled the nuts and bolts on the paper's potential applications in additive manufacturing. It's not just a paper; it's a blueprint for machines that transcend the ordinary.

Parting Wrenches

In a candid moment, Emily thanked Cincinnati Inc. for being her partner in crime, building on a legacy that spans over a century. This award isn't just a wrench in the works; it's a symbol of a journey – a journey that leaves an indelible mark on the ever-evolving landscape of additive manufacturing.

Emily Piatt's Outstanding Technical Paper Award isn't just a technical nod; it's a salute to the machinist's spirit at Cincinnati Inc. Here's to Emily – the Gantry Guru, shaping the future one metallic masterpiece at a time!
