DYNAMIC
THICKNESS COMPENSATION

What is dtc?

Normal material thickness variations found in commercial steel can cause angular variations when air bending. DTC, or Dynamic Thickness Compensation, allows press brakes to automatically compensate for material thickness variations.

DTC improves angular consistency when air bending parts that generate >3% of the machine’s tonnage capacity and has bend angles between 75 and 155 degrees.

A graph showing the comparison of Angle Mode and Angle/DTC production runs with two curves for each mode. The graph shows the data for 60 pieces with 16 gauge material, indicating that DTC can improve angular variation.

Standard on the following models

CI’s Dynamic Thickness Compensation (DTC) is standard on XFORMe and XFORMc machines, and enables the press brake to automatically compensate for material thickness variations.

automatically measures material thickness

With DTC active, the control automatically measures material thickness for each bend by comparing the tool dimensions and the measured to the precise location that tonnage is first detected at the beginning of the bend.

Once the control measures the material thickness, it generates a unique ram reversal position for each bend to achieve the desired bend angle.
