Ball screw drives have long been the standard for precision machine tools including laser cutting systems. A precision ground, preloaded, ball screw combined with laser interferometer lead error compensation results in a laser cutting system with a positioning accuracy of better than ±. 001".
CINCINNATI uses a robust design including a 50mm (1.97") x-axis ball screw. The ball screws are located above and away from the cutting area and are properly shielded from cutting debris to ensure long life. In most applications these ball screws will last a lifetime.
Cincinnati ball screw lasers incorporate a triangle shaped gantry that is guided from one side. The gantry design, combined with an oversized preloaded guide bearing, assures that the head is accurately guided across the table. This configuration allows for a single drive system in the x-axis compared to designs that need to drive both sides of the gantry. Ball screw drives are versatile, productive, accurate and economical.
